It’s one of the most travelled holidays of the year as people across Minnesota hit the roads to spend time with family and friends and as a result, local law enforcement and state troopers statewide can be expected to be out in full force throughout the weekend.

In recent years Thanksgiving weekend has surpassed St. Patrick’s Day and New Year’s Eve as the time when drunk driving is at its most rife with data from the Denver-based Alcohol Monitoring Systems (AMS) violations are 38 percent higher than average on Thanksgiving Day, 34 percent higher on Thanksgiving Eve, and 31 percent higher over the long holiday weekend.

And over the 2015-2016 holiday season as a whole, Minnesota authorities arrested 2,502 motorists for driving under the influence thanks to increased police officer presence on the state’s highways and byways.

So instead of driving, why not plan alternate transportation in advance? A taxi ride is just a phone call away while public transportation options are also available, some of which is free of charge?
